「每日英語短文」A Brother like That（那樣的兄弟）

A friend of mine named Paul received a new car from his brother as an early Christmas present。

我的朋友 Paul收到一輛新車作為即將到來聖誕禮物。

On Christmas Eve， when Paul came out of his office， a boy was walking around the shiny new car， admiring it。

聖誕的夜晚， Paul從辦公室出來看到一個男孩在他新車的周圍，很喜歡車。

“Is this your car， mister？” he asked。

“先生這是您的車嗎？”他問

Paul nodded。 “My brother gave it to me for Christmas。”

Paul點點頭說：“我兄弟送我的聖誕節禮物”

The boy looked astonished 。 “You mean your brother gave it to you， and it didn‘t cost you anything？ Gosh， I wish 。 。 。”

男孩看著他吃驚地說：“你的意思是你兄弟給你的，這個沒花你任何東西？唉，我希望……”

He hesitated， and Paul knew what he was going to wish。 He was going to wish he had a brother like that。

男孩猶豫著， Pau知道男孩一樣什麼。他也一樣有這樣一個兄弟。

But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels。

但是小男孩接下來說的話讓他慚愧到腳後跟兒（找個地縫鑽進去）。

“I wish，” the boy went on， “that I could be a brother like that。”

“我希望”男孩繼續說：“成為那樣一個兄弟”

Paul looked at the boy in astonishment， then impulsively added， “Would you like a ride in my new car？”

Paul吃驚得看著小男孩，接著有點衝動的說：“你想坐一下我的新車嘛？”

“Oh， yes， I’d love that！”

“噢！當然，我喜歡！”

After a short ride the boy turned with his eyes aglow and said， “Mister， would you mind driving in front of my house？”

坐了一段路後男孩激動的紅潤著眼睛說：“先生，你能把車開到我們家門前嘛？”

Paul smiled a little。 He thought he knew what the lad wanted。 He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile。 But Paul was wrong again。

Paul微微一笑，他知道小孩男在想什麼。男孩想向鄰居們炫耀下他可以開一輛這麼大的汽車回家，但是 Paul又錯了。

“Will you stop right where those steps are？” the boy asked。

“您可以停到臺階的右邊嘛？”男孩問

He ran up the steps。 Then in a little while， Paul heard him coming back， but he was not coming fast。

男孩跑上臺階，過了一小會兒， Paul聽到他回來了，但是男孩沒那麼快回來。

He was carrying his little crippled brother。 He sat down on the bottom step， then sort of squeezed up right next to him and pointed at the car。

男孩揹著他的殘疾小弟弟，他坐在臺階下面，給弟弟指著車。

“There she is， buddy， just like I told you upstairs。

“那是他的小夥伴，向我在樓上告訴你的”

His brother gave it to him for Christmas， and it didn‘t cost him a cent。

他的兄弟聖誕節送給他的並且他沒花一分錢。

And someday I’m gonna give you one just like it； then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I‘ve been telling you about。”

將來有一天我也會送你一輛這個車，你可以自己開著去看所有聖誕美好的事物，那是我之前告訴你的。

Paul got out and lifted the little lad into the front seat of his car。

Paul下車讓小夥子坐到車前面的位子。

The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable ride。

年長的哥哥緊挨著他，三個人開始了深刻的旅途！
