格琳斯英語下午茶，The Laborer and the Nightingale

A laborer lay listening to a nightingale‘s song throughout the summer night。

一個夜鶯的歌聲穿透整個夏夜，深深吸引了一個勞工。

So pleased was he with it that the next night he set a trap for it and captured it。

他十分喜歡夜鶯的歌聲，於是，第二天的夜晚，勞工設陷阱抓住了夜鶯。

“Now that I have caught you，” he cried， “you shall always sing to me。”

“我抓住你啦！”他歡呼，“你要一直為我唱歌。”

“We nightingales never sing in a cage。” said the bird。

“我們夜鶯從來不在籠子裡唱歌。”那隻鳥說。

“Then I’ll eat you。” said the laborer。 “I have always heard that a nightingale on toast is dainty。”

“那我就吃了你。”老公說，“我總聽人說，夜鶯肉配吐司很美味。”

“No， don‘t kill me，” said the nightingale，“but let me free，and I’ll tell you three things far better worth than my poor body。”

“不，不要殺我！”夜鶯說，“只要放了我，我就告訴你三件事，遠比我可憐的身體價值高。”

The laborer let him loose， and he flew up to a branch of a tree and said：

勞工將夜鶯鬆開，它飛上枝頭，然後說：

“Never believe a captive‘s promise； that’s one thing。

Then again： Keep what you have。

第二、握住你已經得到的；

And third piece of advice is： Sorrow not over what is lost forever。”

Then the song-bird flew away。

於是，夜鶯唱著歌飛走了。
