目的狀語從句，可用 to do 來替換

我們先看看什麼是目的狀語：

He

went

quietly into the classroom

not to awake the children.

他悄悄地走進去，以免不吵醒孩子們。

上句中，not to awake the children 就是個目的狀語，只不過是個不定時短語，算不上從句。如果把這個句子稍作改動，變成主語謂語都具備的結構，就是個狀語從句：

He went quietly into the classroom in order

that he wouldn't awake the children.

目的狀語從句的結構往往是：so that。。。， in order that。。。 ，這些從句一般都可以用不定式 to do 或者in order to do 來替換。

Let‘s start early

so that

we could get a good seat。

=Let’s start early

to get

a good seat。

我們早點出發，以便搶個好座。

They started early

in order that

they could get a good seat。

=They started early

in order to

get a good seat。

我們很在就出發了，以便能搶個好座。

我們發現，目的狀語從句一般在句末，但是，有時候為了強調這個目的，也可以放在句首：

In order that

he could meet her on time， he took a taxi to the airport instead of a bus。

為了準點接到她，他打的去的機場，沒有坐公交。

在目的狀語從句中，常常出現情態動詞：

can，could，may，might

等，因為 目的狀語從句中常常含有“以便能……、為了可以……”這樣的意思。如：

He hurried to the ticket office so that he

can，could，may，might

get a ticket。

他匆匆趕往售票處，以便能買到票。
